Nominee for Best Pop Instrumental: Wish Upon a Star by Jenny Oaks Baker

At the age of 4, Jenny Oaks Baker picked up the violin and began a journey that has led her to a Grammy Nomination. Her newest album, Wish Upon A Star, takes classic Disney songs and makes them unique and new.

Wish Upon a Star, produced by Shadow Mountain Records, is the 10th album that Baker has released since her album debut back in 1998. She earned a bachelor's degree in violin from the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia and a Master's degree from Juilliard School in New York City where she met her husband Matthew Baker.

Since beginning her professional career, Jenny Oaks Baker debuted as a soloist at Carnegie Hall during the Easter Festival Concert.

Baker has been featured as a guest soloist with the Portland Ensign Choir & Orchestra, the Jerusalem Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the Utah Symphony Orchestra, the Concerto Soloists Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia, the Orchestra at Temple Square in Salt Lake City, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Jenny Oaks Baker performed for 7 years as a first violinist in the National Symphony Orchestra before resigning in 2007 to spend more time with her family.

The reason I chose this album from the Best Pop Instrumental category is because of the message. That's the thing I really like about this album. The message. Baker has taken a magical world that we're all familiar with and added more beauty to it. She has taken a new spin on timeless Disney music, but more than that, she has added a spirit of hope. Frankly we need more hope in the world, we seem to be running out of it. Listen to the music, it reaches out to all ages saying that it's okay to dream, its okay to wish for a better tomorrow.
